Recherches actuelles

« Ma recherche actuelle porte sur l’histoire des malformations congénitales et du diagnostique prénatal. Elle s’intéresse aux premières études qui ont différencié des malformations congénitales des accidents de la naissance et des problèmes qui se développent plus tard dans la vie, aux tentatives de la classification de telles malformations, et aux premières recherches sur des syndromes qui furent plus tard expliqués par les anomalies chromosomiques. Elle étudie l’histoire des techniques qui ont rendu le fœtus accessible au regard des médecins : l’amniocentèse, l’échographie obstétricale et mesures des marqueurs sériques. Ces techniques, couples avec la légalisation de l’avortement, notamment pour les malformations fœtales graves, ont radicalement transformé la surveillance médicale des femmes enceintes, la gestion des risques pour le fœtus, et l’expérience subjective de la grossesse. Ma recherche suit ces changements et les dilemmes qu’ils ont produits au niveau individuel et collectif. »

Parcours de recherche

« Biologiste de formation, j’ai travaillé pendant dix ans dans un laboratoire d’immunologie cellulaire (à l’Institut Pasteur) avant d’acquérir une formation en histoire des sciences. J’ai étudié l’histoire de la transplantions des organes, les « sciences pasteuriennes » – la bactériologie, l’immunologie et la virologie et de la médecine tropicale, notamment le développement des sciences biomédicales au Brésil. Je me suis intéressée en parallèle aux études de genre, en travaillant sur les sujets tels l’assistance médicale à la reproduction, l’histoire de la contraception, ou les utilisations des hormones sexuelles comme médicaments. Je me suis penchée récemment sur l’histoire de la notion du risque cancéreux, notamment celui du risque de cancers féminins, ainsi qu’à celle des efforts de limiter un tel risque. En outre, j’étudie depuis longtemps l’épistémologie de Ludwik Fleck, un penseur qui a élaboré entre les deux guerres une approche hautement originelle à l’étude des sciences, toujours d’actualité aujourd’hui. Toutes mes recherches ont une trame commune : elles se focalisent sur les pratiques matérielles des chercheurs et des médecins, les rapports entre le laboratoire, la clinique et l’industrie, et les intersections entre science, société et politique. »
